ADVOCACY ACTIVITIES

The value and impact of a unified voice for AICP members is clearest in the Association's dealings with agencies and offices at all levels of government. Sometimes in cooperation with other trade organizations, AICP has brought the strength of its membership to bear in negotiations on issues of paramount importance to the production community. When government misapprehension threatened to close public lands to commercial production, the AICP sat down with the Bureau of Land Management and testified before Congress to educate officials not only on the unique needs of commercial production shoots on location, but also on the direct economic impact that filming brings to nearby communities.

Working with the IRS, AICP was able to hammer out a more realistic yardstick for determining independent contractor status, a standard critical to production companies whose organizational structures do not follow traditional business models. Whether working with federal officials, assisting Chapters with issues before state governments, or maintaining relations with local agencies overseeing filmmaking, the AICP represents the specific viewpoint of the commercial production industry.
