AICP's involvement in labor negotiations gives members an opportunity to influence an area that has a major impact on their day-to-day business activities as well as their bottom line. The Association negotiates an exclusive collective bargaining agreement with the Directors Guild of America, and is represented on the DGA industry-wide Health, Pension and Welfare Trust Fund by the AICP president and counsel. The AICP represents the industry to the Teamsters and to IATSE and its locals nationwide, and serves as the collective bargaining unit with such locals when authorized by the membership. The AICP also maintains an ongoing dialogue with the ANA/AAAA Joint Policy Committee on Talent Union Relations which is responsible for the SAG/AFTRA and AFofM contracts. In addition, the AICP provides a formal avenue for resolving problems that may arise regarding compliance with union contract provisions. The Labor Committee is comprised of production company members whose contributions shape the nature of the talks. In contracts, hammered out by professional negotiators retained by AICP, members are accorded special considerations not provided to non-AICP production companies, as well as access to these experts for interpretation and counsel. Alone, the cost benefits of that exclusive privilege usually far outweigh a member's annual dues, making membership in the AICP a sound business decision. |
