The AICP has established a Grievance Review Board for the use of its members. Comprised of former AICP chairmen still with member companies, as well as the current chairman and vice chairman, the Review Board investigates complaints by members of violations of the National Guidelines, above, or other unfair or unethical business practices. Members may file a grievance by completing the official form and mailing it with back-up material to the Grievance Review Board, c/o AICP/National, 3 West 18th St., New York, NY 10011. The form asks for a brief outline of the complaint and copies of any supporting documentation. Members are advised to keep accurate records of communication attempts (both phone and written) to resolve the situation. A grievance should be filed only after all other measures have been pursued, short of legal action. The Review Board will review a grievance and, if it determines that it is warranted, will send a letter accompanied by a copy of the grievance form to the offending company. Where appropriate, a copy of the letter will be sent to the company CEO. The letter notes that a grievance has been filed, and requests the company to forward its response to the Review Board by a certain date, at which time a judgment will be rendered. The letter also discloses that the judgment could be made public to AICP members. The file will be an information resource for the Grievance Review Board to consult. If it reveals a pattern of abuse on the part of any particular company, members of the Review Board will be able to make an informed decision whether or not to make that information public. |
