Mara is an entrepreneur and advertising creative director. After 13 years working for ad agencies like BETC in Paris or AKQA and 72andSunny in Toronto and brands like Starbucks, Nike, and Verizon, Mara uses her brand problemsolving skills to solve issues around her.
Mara’s mission is to bring diversity to male-dominated industries. Being one of the rare female leaders in advertising and technology, she decided to solve the problem in two folds: by inspiring little girls to get in maledominated industries, and inspiring women to remain in them.
Mara created Secret Code, a customizable children’s book that stars *your* girl as a tech hero. She makes girls of all ethnicities see themselves as brave robot engineers. Mara also started WhereAreTheBossLadies, a list of female executives in advertising, to offer a resource for women to find a boss they can relate to.
Mara is a Cannes Lions “See It, Be It” alum, has been named a Next Creative Leader by the One Show and the 3% Conference, one of Mashable’s Rising Stars in Advertising, one of 10 brilliant women in advertising by Campaign magazine contributors alongside Cindy Gallop, and one of 200 Women Redefining the Creative Industry by The Dots. For Secret Code, Mara won a grant from Sophia Amoruso’s Girlboss Foundation, has signed with William Morris/WME, and Secret Code is coming out bookstores this fall distributed by PenguinRandomhouse. Mara is also one of the 12 finalists out of 700 entrepreneurs for the Project Entrepreneur startup pitch competition, launched by the Rent The Runway founders, the women who raised the most venture capital in Silicon Valley. Mara will be incubated by the founders of The Knot to get the business of Secret Code to the next level.
