Tomoko Iwakawa

City National Bank

With over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, Tomoko Iwakawa serves as Senior Vice President and Senior Foreign Exchange Advisor at City National Bank’s International division, where her primary expertise is in FX and derivatives products.  She provides FX sales and custom solutions to the bank’s entertainment and private service clients, both on the east and west coasts, advising them on how to manage their market risks. She has been commenting on the FX market for more than a decade.

Prior to joining City National Bank, she managed Union Bank’s Global Derivatives division, offering FX, interest rate and commodity derivatives to corporate clients to hedge these risks.

Being born in Japan and being bilingual, Ms. Iwakawa started her career with JP Morgan Tokyo in asset and liability management, engaging in funding and arbitraging using swaps. She also worked in Morgan Stanley, London, where she first started to engage in the FX markets.

Ms. Iwakawa earned her B.A in Economics from Keio University in Tokyo and her M.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics. She is an avid art and music lover, singer, and is also a student at the Colburn School of Music (adult studies). She has also taught courses at UCLA Extension.
