Matt Aselton grew up in Massachusetts and graduated from Williams College in 1993 with a major in English and Art History. After college Matt worked as a house painter, and then a copywriter at Young & Rubicam. He then started his own agency, Union, where he began creating & directing commercials for Fox Sports, Comedy Central, and the NFL. In 2004 Matt joined Epoch Films where he went on to direct award winning commercials full-time for clients like Volkswagen, Old Spice, Target, and AT&T. 

In 2011 Matt founded and launched production company Arts & Sciences with partners Marc Marrie and Mal Ward. Arts & Sciences is a boutique production company that specializes in producing award winning advertising content, music videos, fine art projects, and original documentaries and feature films. Representing a diverse group of top directors and creators, Arts & Sciences was named a Creativity A-List Production Company for the past four years in a row. Arts & Sciences work has been recognized by every major advertising award show- The Cannes Lions, The Clios, AICP Awards, D&ADs, The One Show and the Andys. Our original content work has been featured in the New Frontiers showcase at the Sundance Film Festival, Nowness, & Purple Magazine. Arts & Sciences has produced work every major global brand including Samsung, Google, Apple, Facebook, Nike, AT&T, Volkswagen, Ford, Smirnoff, EA Sports, Chase Bank, eBay, Hermes, Heineken, Budweiser, The NFL, MLB, American Express, etc 

Since starting Arts & Sciences Matt has continued to direct work for clients like Brand Jordan, Google, Ford, Playstation, Netflix, Audi, Dish, Delta Airlines, and AT&T to name a few. Matt’s Brand Jordan “Jeter” film was honored in 2015 with a Cannes Lions Grand Prix, a Sports Clio, a Best Direction AICP award, and won an Integrated Campaign award at the 2015 AICP NEXT Show at MOMA. 

Matt co-wrote and directed his first feature film, “GIGANTIC”, in 2008. The film, starring Paul Dano, Zooey Deschanel, John Goodman and Ed Asner, debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival and won the Target Award for Best Narrative Feature at the AFI Dallas International Film Festival in March 2009. Matt is currently in development on two new features. 

Matt just wrapped his 2nd feature film, "Lying & Stealing", starring Theo James, Emily Ratajkowski, and Fred Melamed. Produced by Michael Costigan, Naomi Despres, and co-produced by Arts & Sciences,  the film was written by Matt and Adam Nagata and will premiere in 2018.
